Dr. Srini Sampalli is a Professor and 3M National Teaching Fellow in the Faculty of Computer Science, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, and brings with him more than 20 years of teaching and research experience. His interests are in the areas of cybersecurity, reliability, and applications of emerging wireless technologies. Specifically, his research work spans the following areas:

  • Cybersecurity, risk mitigation, vulnerability analysis, intrusion detection, and prevention
  • Emerging wireless technologies
  • Mobile computing
  • Applications of near-field communications (NFC), radio frequency identification (RFID) systems, smartphones, sensor networks, and body area networks.
  • Applications of emerging wireless technologies in healthcare

He has successfully led industry-driven research and development projects on protocol vulnerabilities, security best practices, the design of intrusion detection and prevention systems, and applications of RFID systems and NFC-enabled smartphones. His projects have been funded by NSERC, Industry Canada and the NRC.

Dr. Sampalli has collaborated/ is collaborating with a number of industries, local IT companies, and research organizations. They include Industry Canada, Boeing, Solution Inc., Timeless Medical Systems, Norex.ca, eOLIO, ExactDeposit, FANfit, HealthQR Inc., Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Citrus Mobile Solutions, Home Safe Living, Progeny Software and ViTRAK Systems. He is also the co-founder of a startup company, Wi4Tech Inc., that was born out of Sampalli’s lab, MYTech Lab ("EMerging WIreless Technologies Lab) in the Faculty of Computer Science. He is also on the Board of Advisors for EyeRead (a subsidiary of Norex.ca) and a Technical Advisor for ExactDeposit Inc.

Teaching is one of Dr. Sampalli’s primary passions. He has received the Dalhousie Faculty of Science Teaching Excellence award, the Dalhousie Alumni Association Teaching award, the Association of Atlantic Universities’ Distinguished Teacher Award, a teaching award instituted in his name by the students within his Faculty, and the 3M National Teaching Fellowship, Canada’s most prestigious teaching acknowledgment.

Since September 2016, he holds the position of the Vice President (Canada), of the International Federation of National Teaching Fellows (IFNTF). The federation is a non-profit organization that emanated from 3M National Teaching Fellows' and similar award-winning teachers' organizations from around the world for the advancement of teaching and learning.

Dr. Sampalli holds a B.Eng. degree from Bangalore University and a Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), Bangalore, India. He also completed a post doctoral fellowship at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada before taking on a faculty position at Dalhousie University.
